Covering just over 200 square miles, Cleveland is a fairly small county. It was created in 1974, before that it was part of North Riding of Yorkshire. The administrative town is Middlesbrough, situated on the south bank of the River Tees. The area is also known as Teeside or the Tees Valley.

Cleveland's main commercial ventures are steel working and chemical production. As well as industrial areas, there are also coastal resorts like Saltburn, home of the oldest water powered cliff lift in the world. The fantastic shopping ands leisure facilities in Cleveland make it a lively county to visit.
