Days Out Bedfordshire & Things To Do
Beds UK
Bedfordshire is the smallest of the 'Shire' counties occupying just 480 square
miles of central, southern England. It lies between Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire
to the north and Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire in the south.
Bedfordshire has no cities, however it does have a number of flourishing
market towns including Bedford, Luton, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard.
The largest town in Beds is Luton, which boasts an international airport.
Bedford, first recorded in 1011 as Bedanfordscir, gets its name from
the Anglo-Saxon for Beda's Ford – the place
where Beda forded the Great Ouse River.
